Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art announces the opening of a new location at 702 1/2 Canyon Road. The new 3000 square foot space will serve as the primary location for Chiaroscuro, which has operated from 439 Camino del Monte Sol since 1999. The 702 1/2 Canyon Road space will open April 1st with regular spring hours of Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-5pm. The 439 Camino del Monte Sol space will be installed with group exhibitions and be open by appointment only starting April 1st.
The inaugural exhibition in the new space is Grand Opening, a group show featuring artist presenting solo shows in 2009, from April 3-May 2, 2009. Public reception is Friday, April 3 from 5-7pm at 702 1/2 Canyon Road.
Grand Opening at 702 1/2 Canyon features recent work by eleven gallery artists listed below, including two new artists to the gallery: Susan Sales from Dallas and Peter Millett from Seattle. Sales‘ abstract color field paintings have captivated national audiences for years. Her rich saturated color combined with an incredibly smooth surface produces distinct and powerful work. After an eight year hiatus, Sales is pleased to be exhibiting in Santa Fe again. Millett‘s abstract sculptures investigate geometric relationships executed in either wood or metal. The angles and masses come together forming reductive work that is simultaneously filled with intensity and calm. Influences of sacred geometry and symbolism from world cultures are present throughout his mature body of work.
