"Opuntia"

Past Show: Aug 17-Sep 8 2012

Abstract painter Emmi Whitehorse (Navajo) continues to evolve her painterly abstractions of “a moment in the landscape.” Combining intense washes of subtle color and her distinctive “markings” of graphite, chalk and pastel, Whitehorse draws upon the light and structure of nature yet transforms the visual information into a purely abstract personal vocabulary of shapes and marks. "Opuntia" refers to a cactus genus ranging from shades of green to purple, with fruits of red, yellow, and green – all hues that inspired the new work to increased levels of color intensity.

Opening Reception, Friday August 17, 5-7pm
