    About Chip Dunahugh

Chip Dunahugh's "Jig" series of paintings and collages are assembled of characters and shapes that loosely suggest dancing figures. Starting with three shapes lined across the panel - that is where the title "Jig", which is defined as a lively dance in triple time, comes from. "Jig" is an apt title because not only does it refer to the way the pieces start but also reveals how music has been important to Dunahugh's work and working process for the past twenty years. Both paintings and collages share a focus on gestural abstraction and hard edge abstraction, as well as the collage traditions in the paintings of Matisse and the cubists.

Chip Dunahugh's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, including the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Loyola Marymount University and the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri. In addition, his work is in several collections, including Sterling Commerce Corporation in Columbus, Ohio, and the Office of Student Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. In September of 2003 Dunahugh completed a commission for the lobby of Nestle-Purina's corporate offices in St. Louis by creating a large wall mounted layered cut panel piece, "Jig on Coral."
