Gunnar Plake

About the Artist

Gunnar Plake captures the perception of motion in a single photographic frame. His impressionistic landscapes and seascapes compress time and dissolve detail, yet allow us to recognize the nature of the image. His unique color photographs are laminated and mounted on anodized aluminum giving it a sculptural quality that seemingly floats from the wall. (Aluminum mounting not shown on web image reproductions, please contact gallery.)

Chiaroscuro's current inventory focuses on Plake's "Grand Canyon Series" which consists of three parts and over 30 images that capture this iconic landscape in a wholly original fashion.

Plake currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and travels extensively to make his artwork. Plake's photographs are subject of many recent shows throughout the U. S. and are in the collections of The Brooklyn Museum, The Denver Art Museum, The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and The Huntington Galleries as well as numerous public and private collections.
